Bonjour students, parents, and guardians!
My name is Jacqueline Bird, and I am thrilled to be your teacher this year! If you're wondering who I am, feel free to read a little bit about me below: I love to learn and to discover, and I hope to help my students to love these things in their own ways. I completed my Bachelor of Arts with a major in International Development Studies at the McGill University and a double minor in Political Science and World Religions. I completed my Bachelor of Education with a concentration in French at Queen's University, and I recently completed my Masters of Education with a specialization in Teaching, Learning, and Evaluation. I learn from my students, in my classroom, at workshops, on Pinterest, from chatting with inspiring teachers from the OCDSB, and beyond. Learning is everywhere. I hope that my students are all encouraged to become lifelong learners. |
Straight out of Teachers College, I went to teach in Taiwan. There, along with nineteen other English speakers from around the globe, I had the opportunity of a lifetime and helped created curriculum for their experiential English Immersion Program. In the OCDSB, I have taught Grade 3 Early French Immersion, Grade 6 Middle French Immersion, and Core French to grades 3, 4, 5 and 8. I also have additional qualifications in Intermediate Business - Intermediate, and French as a Second Language, Part 1. You can check out my qualifications here.
Some of my hobbies include alpine skiing; I grew up ski racing at Camp Fortune, was a team member of the McGill Varsity Ski Team and will try to sneak away during the winter weekends as often as I can to hit the slopes of a nearby mountain. I play volleyball and football, but love participating in any sport when the opportunity presents itself. I love reading, writing, painting, and knitting. I enjoy travelling, and will find just as much excitement in exploring Ottawa and its surroundings as I will somewhere a plane ride away. Although I haven't mastered any instrument, I enjoy "dabbling" in many: guitar, banjo, ukulele, and the harmonica. I love being outside, having a coffee, and sharing a good laugh.
I'm so excited to have you in my classroom this year and I can't wait to get to know each and every one of you!
